Over the weekend, Dar partnered with the Bugesera District to commemorate Good Governance Month in Rwanda, leading an event filled with transformative social and economic endeavours that aim to cultivate a healthier and environmentally sustainable nation inline with Rwanda’s long standing approach.

In an effort towards positive change in the community, the outreach initiative contributed donations towards school tuition for children from underprivileged backgrounds and provided extended medical insurance to more than 50 households in the area. In addition, support to farming and families in need was extended as part of the government’s Girinka Munyarwanda program.

In the Shyara Sector, over 2,000 trees were donated by Dar and planted to promote a greener future for Rwanda. The initiative is a collaboration between Dar and the Ministry of Environment of Rwanda, the Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA), and Orion Basketball Club. As a sponsor of Orion Basketball Club, Dar also pledged to renovate a community basketball court at Groupe Scolaire Gihinga by March 2024.

The event was attended by Jeanne Nyirahabimana, the Executive Secretary of the Eastern Province, and Angelique Umwali, Bugesera’s Vice Mayor overseeing socio-economic development. Nyirahabimana and Umwali commended the outreach initiatives and Dar’s commitment towards environmental stewardship in the area.

Elie Kharrat, Director of Dar Rwanda, emphasised the significance of these initiatives within the company’s broader Health, Safety, and Environment policy under its social corporate responsibility initiatives. “Dar, in our language, means Home. This expresses our feeling towards Bugesera; we feel at home here,” Mr. Kharrat added. “This noble cause signifies our commitment to giving back to the community in which we operate. Undertaking such developmental initiatives with courage and resilience means a lot to us.”

Dar, with two main offices in Nyamata and Kigali, is actively overseeing the construction of the New Bugesera International Airport and the development of the National Transport Master Plan, aiming to contribute to a sustainable future for Rwanda.
