Dar participated in the European Healthcare Design Conference 2026 (EHD2026), which took place from 15–17 June 2026 at the QEII Centre in London. Under this year’s theme, “Agile not fragile: Designing for resilience, renewal and regeneration,” the congress gathered leading voices from healthcare planning, architecture, design, research, and policy to explore the future of healthcare environments.

As part of the conference programme, Dar’s healthcare planners, Majd Ebwini and Bissan Chalich, presented “The Path of Hope: Designing a Resilient Paediatric Cancer Hospital for Renewal and Healing,” showcasing Dar’s work on the King Hussein Cancer Centre Paediatric Expansion in Amman, Jordan.
The presentation addressed a fundamental question in healthcare design: How can healthcare environments better support children and young people? Drawing on Dar’s experience, it highlighted the importance of an agile, human-centred approach that extends beyond clinical requirements to foster resilience, emotional well-being, and hope.

The King Hussein Cancer Centre Expansion is designed to meet the growing demand for specialised healthcare services in Jordan through the development of additional facilities that support high-quality patient care. The project comprises the Paediatric Cancer Centre and Bone Marrow Transplant building, an Ambulatory Care Centre, a Nurse Dormitory, and supporting infrastructure. These facilities contribute to a total built-up area of 77,355 m² on a 19,500 m² site. The expansion is intended to improve the patient experience while providing the clinical, support, and ancillary services required to serve an increasing number of patients.

Through this presentation, Dar shared insights into creating healing environments that adapt to rapidly evolving patient needs while redefining the healing journey for young patients and their families. The session explored how agile, resilience-driven design can shape a healthcare environment that responds to evolving clinical demands while nurturing the emotional and psychological wellbeing of children and their families. The presentation also illustrated a holistic model in which architecture, interior design, and therapeutic concepts converge to create a place of hope and healing.

The session took place during Stream 4 (Design Showcase), Session 12: Designing for Children and Young People, on Monday, 15 June, from 10:45 to 12:30, in the Abbey Room at the QEII Centre.
Dar’s participation at EHD2026 offered a platform to share the design thinking behind the King Hussein Cancer Centre Paediatric Expansion, highlighting how every layer of the project was designed around the needs, experiences, and healing journey of children and their families.
