On March 1st, Maral Mitlyan, operations manager at Dar Türkiye, participated in the Civil Istanbul’24 panel discussion hosted by Yıldız Technical University. The panel’s focus was on the importance of digitalisation and innovation in creating sustainable cities.

Yıldız Technical University is one of the oldest educational establishments in Istanbul, Türkiye. It is a prominent technical university dedicated to engineering, natural sciences, and recently social sciences. The university’s engineering department aims to train scientists to create safe and modern living environments for society and ensure sustainable development.

At Civil Istanbul ’24, discussions centred around challenges − natural hazards, climate change, population growth, and issues related to the quality of construction − faced by cities, especially Istanbul, and how the use of smart city technologies can create a way forward.

During her contribution, Maral emphasised the importance of coming up with effective implementation strategies and high-impact implementable projects. Additionally, she highlighted how crucial it is to monitor and evaluate said projects.  The scope of discussion also included the significance of creating sustainability strategies that are financially viable and can be implemented using digital tools.

Dar is committed to taking action to advance societal goals and support the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals such as Goal 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities. This seminar provided a platform for participants – including academicians, young professionals, and students – to share their insights on building sustainable cities and to engage with likeminded researchers and experts.
