Overview
The New Asiago Ice Rink and Arena is a proposed multi-purpose sports and events venue sitting at the heart of the new “Asiago 365” urban masterplan in Parco Millepini, on the Asiago Plateau in northern Italy. The project envisions a year-round destination for sports, cultural, and community activities, designed to reinforce Asiago’s role as a leading center for winter and recreational tourism. Designed in line with principles of environmental and social sustainability, the project aims to support the regeneration of Parco Millepini and promote the long-term economic and social development of the Asiago Plateau.
To minimise visual impact and preserve the area’s alpine character, the development includes a partially underground ice arena integrated with the site’s natural landscape and topography. Planned to accommodate approximately 3,250 spectators, the facility is exceptionally flexible and will be able to host professional and youth sports as well as cultural events, exhibitions, shows, trade fairs, and other public functions throughout the year.

Dar, working alongside sister Sidara company Maffeis Engineering, Pascoli Engineering, and Pier Currà Architettura, is supporting the development of the New Asiago Ice Arena.
The project envisions a multi-purpose arena with a capacity of approximately 3,250 seats, designed to host a wide range of activities—from professional and youth ice sports to cultural events, shows, trade fairs, and other public gatherings. Two design options were presented, both centred on a partially underground structure that preserves the site’s natural contours, maintains a dialogue with the surrounding landscape of the Asiago Plateau, and minimises visual impact within its environment.
Inspired by the region’s alpine terrain, the architectural concept adopts a refined context-sensitive language: a light, green-integrated volume emerging from the landscape as a “hidden pavilion.” Extensive glass façades and a landscaped green roof visually connect the arena with its surroundings, blending into the terrain and enhancing continuity with the landscape.
Beyond the arena, the project supports the transformation of Parco Millepini into a multi-functional, year-round destination. The masterplan envisions a five-star hotel with a wellness centre, an open-air amphitheatre, recreation areas, and a network of pedestrian paths and public spaces, enhancing accessibility, community interaction, and tourism throughout the year. A new road network will also improve access and traffic flow, especially during major events.
Aligned with environmental and energy sustainability criteria for both its construction and operation phases, the project aims to deliver low-impact, high-efficiency infrastructure.
With an estimated investment of €25 million, funded through national, federal, and inter-municipal programs, the New Asiago Ice Arena represents an advanced model of sustainable regional development through the integrated design of sports and urban infrastructure. The venue will serve as a new focal point for sports in the region, particularly for ice-sport enthusiasts, while offering a year-round destination for cultural, recreational, and community activities.
