In a ceremony held in its offices on January 25th, Qatar’s Public Works Authority honoured Dar for its critical role, as the design and supervision consultant, in delivering the world’s largest green roof – as officially certified by Guinness World Records – on the Expo House, one of the main attractions of Expo 2023 Doha.

At an impressive 4,031 m2 and planted with Pennisetum and Dahlia and green grass, the green roof complements an exceptional structure that provides visitors with an immersive horticulture experience – a true showcase of greenery and nature-friendly design, existing and even thriving within a scorching desert climate.

The green roof encapsulates the entire mission of Expo 2023 Doha. An experience that seamlessly blends innovation and sustainability with culture and entertainment, the Expo has brought together people from more than 80 countries across the globe to exchange expertise on combating desertification – encouraging, inspiring, and informing people about innovative solutions for regenerating nature and safeguarding the planet.

For years, Dar provided extensive consultancy services to support Qatar in delivering this one-of-a-kind horticultural exhibition, the first ever to be held in a desert climate. Our contributions have ranged from preparing the master plan for the entire Al Bidda Park to providing detailed architectural and engineering design services as well as construction supervision for the Expo and many landmark buildings and Pavilions within the site, including the Expo House and the Qatari Pavilion, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Pavilion and Gardens, Jordanian Pavilion, Dutch Pavilion, AIPH Pavilion, and many more.
